A 19th cen­tu­ry Por­tuguese (Caste­lo Bran­co) embroi­dered cov­er­let made of home­spun linen/​flax and embroi­dered in silk floss thread with a cen­tral roundel with a boy and girl sur­round­ed by blos­som­ing flow­ers, scrolling vines, and birds.These are often referred to as bridal cov­er­lets” or colchas.” Caste­lo Bran­co is locat­ed in the Beira Baixa region of Por­tu­gal. The designs used on these cov­er­lets were strong­ly influ­enced by India and Persia.
